What the grade should establish
A wind-and-watertight unit should prevent normal wind-driven rain from entering through the shell and closed doors. It is not the same as a cargo-worthy certification, climate control or a guarantee against condensation. Ask how weather resistance was checked.
Moisture can still form inside
Temperature swings and moisture carried in with contents can create condensation even when rain stays out. Keep sensitive goods off the floor, address airflow and select ventilation, insulation or conditioning around the material being stored.
Placement protects performance
Support the corner castings on firm, level points so the frame and doors stay square. Keep water from ponding around the container and inspect roof, seals and repairs during use. Compare leasing and purchasing using the same stated condition.

Wind-and-watertight storage containers to rent or buy
Specify the same wind-and-watertight condition when comparing storage container rental quotes and used shipping containers for sale. A weather-resistant shell does not control heat or moisture released by the contents. Ask how doors, seals and repairs were checked, then plan supports and drainage. Read whether shipping containers are waterproof alongside the container condensation guide so the chosen storage specification matches the goods.
